Wellness Writing Workshops
Medical research and studies have provided ample evidence to show the health benefits of writing. Findings show that expressive writing, done with regularity, helps boost the immune system, decrease stress and anxiety, relieves depression and contributes to the overall maintenance of emotional, mental and physical health. The wellness and grief recovery writing workshops offered by The Writing Doula involve activities designed to address those health concerns.

Writing for Well-Being series
Focuses on expressive writing and journaling activities that aid in easing stress and managing depression, anger and anxiety.
Writing through Grief
Utilizing journaling, prose and poetic expressions to manage episodes of grief caused by death and other losses.

Intensive Grief Recovery Consultation – Individuals only.
Engagement-focused sessions on navigating and managing episodes of grief due to death and other losses. Seven hourly sessions by Grief Recovery Institute certified practitioner Linda Jones, involves writing, confidential expressions and other actionable goals. (The Writing through Grief workshop is not a component of the grief recovery consultations.)
Preparing your Final Story (obituary writing)
Keep stress to a minimum for loved ones by planning in advance. Step-by-step instructions on writing obituaries in advance for self or family members. Participants leave workshop with completed obituary template, profile information and planning resources.

Race-Based Stress
Applying expressive, affirming and aspirational writing techniques aimed at reducing the harmful effects of negative racial experiences.
Introduction to Life Story & Personal Essay
Exploration of autobiographical writing with focus on memoir and personal essay. Four-hour session of memory-stimulating exercises to capture special moments and past experiences in writing. Basics of personal essay also taught.


Legacy Writing for Seniors
One-on-one or group sessions that guide seniors in producing short narratives about life experiences and lessons learned. Individual sessions can be done via phone or Skype.
